1962 Echoes of The Chapel

I really miss the acoustics of the SAS chapel.  Most churches that I have sung in these days are totally "dead."  And it's such a shame.  Everything has to be “microphoned,” and bumped up to sound half-way real; but Christ the King Chapel had a great, live, reverberating sound; and it totally enhanced the feeling of God's presence!  I think it also made people feel easy about singing.  The reverb or sound  projection quality of the building gave everyone confidence, which the sound-deadened buildings of today just do not do.  It always seemed to me that the SAS Chapel helped everyone's voices blend, in a good way.  Add to that, a real pipe organ, and you had magic!  There is no substitute for that vibration traveling through your body as you sang, or listened to a 60 voice boys' choir projecting from the loft!  Today's  electronic synthesized organs have no way to duplicate that physical vibration experience in the liturgy, or to lift you in the same way.  That's just my recollection of it all. "Gloria Patri et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.  Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen"    VJ
