Father Hilary Hobrecht, OFM was one of my favorite teachers. He was from Sacramento. His family owned Hobrecht Lighting, a long time business in Sacramento.

I used to play tennis against him at the tennis courts near the refectory. We were both very competitive. He also taught me to be a good speaker. I was lucky enough to not only have his great help at St. Anthony’s, but also at San Luis Rey. I had several courses from him at St. Anthony’s: Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Logic; and he encouraged our interest in theater.
I ended up starting a drama program at the high school in Sacramento where I taught because of him. I directed many musicals and plays due to his wonderful influence. Also, his idea about a 10 minute sermon has stuck with me forever. Thanks Fr. Hilary!
