1952 - March 17 - Track Day- Plus!

For the fifth class of 1952, all five St. Patrick's Days were celebrated by a parade of Class floats. Next were a long list of track and field events, followed by a huge bonfire on the field (near the stone wall below the flagpole). Around the fire, in the dark, we ate hotdogs (and drank sodas?), and eventually sang dozens of songs (especially Irish ) and hymns, now and then breaking into 3- and 4-part harmony. For Fr. Martial (our choirmaster and disciplinarian), we usually sang Er lebe hoch. . . . (my German is rusty). Eventually, we helped douse the fire, and dragged our tired selves to the chapel for night prayers, and off to our dorms for a solid night's sleep. Too much fun! What other activities did some of you youngsters have for St. Pat's day? Pax et Bonum to you and yours.

Fraternally,
